Feeling tired of your push lawnmower and considering about buying a ride-on mower? If so, here are the questions you should consider before deciding to buy a new ride on mower.
1. What is the most appropriate one for you?
If you are about to mow a flat lawn, the choice of the ride-on mower is widely open. However, for a lot of people, the lawn they have might vary from the undulating through to the steep ones. In such a situation, there will be a necessity to have a machine with a low gravity center. Another reason is the length of the grass you are mowing, especially when there are areas you allow grow long.
2 Petrol or diesel?
Ride-on mowers with diesel engine have more torque and are cheaper to run than a petrol engine. That's why people preferred choosing contractors, that tend to run them for the hours for the purpose of economical. Torque is essential to keep the blades running at a great cutting speed and to save on engine wear depending on what you are doing.
3 Mower or tow it?
Another choice is the tow behind mower, usually pulled around by an ATV. A tow behind machine arrives into the mower's own is when you own a larger lawn area and you want to top paddocks. You could use a ride on but work on the rough ground, will quickly crash blades and belts. This will then result in expensive repair costs. A cutting unit which you are towing behind an ATV is powered by its own mower and may move over rough terrain at good speeds.
4 Steering: levers or wheels?
A ride-on mower is suitable for those like the comfort & the familiarity of driving a machine which is similar to a car. And if you own a large and open lawn with several obstacles, this might be the most economical option. But do not let the unusual ride on mower with a lever steer stop off giving it a go. A great quality lever-steer mower is very intuitive to drive, and once you have mastered it – it usually takes a few minutes – most people will find it easy to operate.
5 Why torque is very important?
A ride on mower has the ratings for its horsepower, displacement, and torque. Horsepower is something makes the mower move forward as well accelerate under its normal condition. If you own hilly lawn area or you want to tow an area of full of heavy stones, you will need to more horsepower. Torque is the power which is generated by the mower which gives a machine its ‘grunt’ to turn the blades and to keep turning under stresses like wet and long grass. The higher the torque is, the better the performance of the mower under stress will be. If the lawn is flat, the speed is fairly consistent and the lawn will be regularly mowed. You do not need to pay for as much torque or horsepower as someone with their steep lawn or those who are going mow a rougher lawn area.
