Seeing the grass of your lawn grows faster? And you want to mow the lawn yourself?
Now, before you go to the home maintenance store to buy a push reel lawnmower, you have to know that it is not for everyone. Sometimes, riding or power lawnmowers are better, depending on several factors.
Below are some of these factors that you should figure out before you switch to a push reel lawnmower.
1. A half-acre or smaller yard
Manual reel lawnmowers are appropriate for small to medium-sized lawn yards. Most experts concur that if you should mow a lawn of more than 8000 square feet, you'd better using a riding or power push lawnmower. For the large end of a medium-sized, it only takes us about 45 minutes to mow using a manual mower. And the lawn of yours is the size of the average yards in the suburban area, you should have no reason to use a push reel lawnmower.
3. You cannot bag clippings
If you are one of those people who better likes to bag the clippings, a push reel lawnmower might not be for you. Although some push reel lawnmowers include a basket which will catch the clippings, they do not work well and many of them do not offer any clipping catcher.
Yet, if you are a devoted-bagger, you are likely to reconsider the stance. Most lawncare service providers agree that you should not bag the clippings, just leave them in your grass. Grass clippings are fertilizer for the lawn. The clippings give the same beneficial phosphorous, potassium and nitrogen nutrients which are free.
4. It is not good for excessively bumpy & overgrown yards.
There might be that you have many bumps found in your yards which result in the reel mower does not do a good job of cutting. It is particularly because the wheels cannot get the right traction to move the blade. You should come back and trim that with your weed-wacker. It is not a problem since there might be only one part in your lawn that gives you trouble.
Furthermore, a push reel lawnmower works best on a yard that is well-maintained. It does not cut long grass too well. So, if you always allow the grass to get pretty long before cutting it, you are better off using a power lawnmower.
What kind of grass do you possess? A manual reel lawnmower works better on several kinds of grass than others. Most reel lawnmowers have a difficult time handling highly thick grasses such as Zoysia, St. Augustine, and Bermuda. Don't ever fear. If you possess a lawn which is made completely of any of these types of grasses, you are not relegated to just gas-powered lawnmowers.
